September Sanity

It’s the most wonderful time of the year September! Welcome back school! Welcome back Fall! Welcome back routine! Welcome back sanity!

Don’t get me wrong – I love summer! I love being at the lake and the sunshine and the bonfires and the late nights and the lazy mornings  – but I can only take so much! I don’t know about your family but mine functions way better with a set routine and everyone knowing what is going on, when it’s going on and where it’s going on! Yes, the chaos is still there – but really it’s more of an organized chaos instead of full fledged mayhem. Bedtimes are back! And now they can’t argue with me on the times because a) They’ve got school tomorrow and b) I have activities to use as bribes!! (Can I get an Amen?) My leverage as a Mom just went up 8 billion percent!

I love my kids! I love them so much it hurts sometimes! But I’m not going to lie – The Freedom quiet that is in the house almost brings me to tears. Those being tears of joy! And some of you are thinking “pffft really Jo?” Yup! I am joyful because my babies are not babies anymore – they are growing up and are really coming into their own! They came home excited from being back at school! They loved seeing their friends and meeting their new teachers! Even Joel liked school! ( THANK GOODNESS!!) My job as a parent is to raise independent, functioning members of society and school and routine are a part of that! And I am happy because they are happy!

Happy Kids!

We were getting to the part of summer where the three kiddos were starting to get on each others nerves. The usual – “don’t look at me”, “don’t touch my stuff”, and my favourite “MOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM! *insert sibling name* is bugging me!” (And “bugging” can be anything from breathing in the same room to being sat upon) But just by having the space from each other of being at school has brought endless peace and harmony some balance into the house! They were actually all playing together and building Lego – together – in the same room- and were enjoying themselves. No fights, no yelling, no whining – #miraclemoment.

So thank you September for bringing back sanity, and routine, and just some quietness. #thismommaneededit #schoolforthewin #septembersanity
